Carpet in trouble!!

Hey Everybody! Kinda in trouble. I bought a carpet anemone that seemed to be doing fine and the store and fine at home for a week. I woke up one morning to find him in the front corner on attached mostly to the sand but partly to a rock. He was in about the middle of the tank up high on the LR before. I know that they move, but thats a lot. Anyways, now he doesn't seem to be doing very well. He's kinda hunched over, mouth closed, not ridding himself of the sand settling on him. I tried to detach him and put him up higher but I couldn't get him off! Should I leave him and see what happens, or make a drastic change and try to get him back up higher on the rocks. ANy signs to look for? Thanks for the help.

BTW my tank is a 120 set up for 8 months( I know its a little early, but all the corals are doing fine and conditions are very stable. Its lighted by 2 250 watt MH and 2 Actinics.

The biggest positives you have are two part.

1) his mouth is closed. VERY GOOD sign
2) when you tried to move him, he was footed.

I would advise to just leave him alone. They get moody sometimes, and yes they move, sometimes ALOT

So I would just watch him and not worry

Lise is right on on the good signs thing. carpets are a moody bunch. your lighting is great so you do not have to worry about that. have you been feeding it fish? they capture unsuspecting fish in the wild. silversides are a great food. i made sure they were good an thawed first.

back to moving again. i found they like to bury their bases deep into either the rockwork or the sand. they like to keep only thier cap exposed. it may have moved because it felt its base was to exposed somehow. mine liked being at sand level.

getting the sand out can be tough, thier little nematacysts are strong, they will grab onto sand if it is porous enough. i would not worry to much about this either.

i would just keep an eye on it for tomorrow. try feeding it silversides, salmon, tuna, anything raw you get from the store, should be a SW fish though. think of it as a great excuse to get some fresh fish for dinner. isn't this why we all use blender mush.

Yeah, I have had problems with my carpet ever since the sea cuke went down the overflow, though he was a cork or sumpin, ANYWAY, it blocked the tube just enought to overflow the tank.

Brand new berber, too...

I took the MACNA goodie money and bought a steam cleaner, didn't clean the carpet, but BOY did it suck up the water out of the carpet!

We turned it and strategically placed a coffee table over the spot. It's an area rug (but a darn nice one, and a darn expensive one!), so it's not too noticeable now.

I couldn't resist. Sorry for hijacking the thread!

Casey we know there has to be a better way to spend your Labor Day weekend or maybe you like to do things just a wee bit different than most of us!!

Although after talking to you on the phone this morning sounds like things are back to normal! By the way how were those steaks?
