I'm not excactly sure on your question you're trying to ask.

Are you saying that when the lights are off, the anemone completely closes, while when your kids leave and the lights turn on, it opens? If so, this is completely normal. It shouldn't be anything to worry about.

If I didn't answer your question completely, I apologize. Maybe you could re word your sentence

Take Care,
Graham

Live guppies are not a part of the Anemone's diet, and are very high in fat. They're not at all healthy for the anemone. I recommend you stop feeding the anemone guppies.

I would recommend chopped squid, krill, shrimp, silver sides, lance fish, and clams. Place the food gently on its tentacles, and it should take it in. If the food is not taken in, and instead it's pushed away or floats away with the current, stop feeding that food and try something else. You need to do the "Trial-and-error" when testing which foods the anemone should take in.

I would personally aim towards feeding it 3x weekly.

Feedings may vary

Clowns do not need to have an anemone to survive a happy and "Normal" life in captivity. Clowns do perfectly fine without an anemone. You would be much better off buying a large Toadstool leather for the clownfish, rather than a new anemone. Leathers are much more hardy, and will do perfectly fine for clownfish. Frogspawns, Torch's, Bubble Corals, Xenia, Green Star Polyps, Leathers, etc., will all make nice hosts for the clownfish.

What size tank do you have? The corals mentioned can tolerate lower light, IME. I started with a BTA 3 years ago. It was about 3 inches across. Unfortunately, I was newbie and had it under 40 watts of NO in a 30 XH. Over the period of a few months it had shrunk down to the size of a half dollar and was transparent white. I upgraded to 2 x 55 W PC and it started to grow and turned brown.

Just over a year ago, I switched to my current set up (40 BR). I ended up with 3 anenomes (through the clone/split process). I upgraded lighting to 2 x 175 MH and I now have 6 large clowns (all 6 are at least 8 inches across when fully inflated). They are also a green-brown. I only feed them approximately once a week. My clarkii pair feed them throughout the week. They love silversides soaked with Selcon. If I feed them more often, they grow and grow and then split. I'm running out of room....

They do tend to shrink down at night and rise to full inflation after the MHs come on. I'm guessing so that they zooxanthelle (sp?) can take full advantage of the light.

BTAs are pretty tolerant of lower light (I wouldn't use less than PC though).....

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Jodi

You would be able to keep a few of the corals meantioned above for hosting clownfish alive. You would do best with the Toadstool Leather. The frogspawn may live if placed up higher in the tank. Make sure to keep the frogspawn away from any neighboring coral colonies.

Silver Sides are a species of fish, which is often sold frozen at your LFS. You can thaw them out, and feed them directly to some of your inhabitants (particulary the Large Polyp Stonies [LPS]).

I heard that frogspawns at nights send their arms out looking for other corals. that the can reach 20cm. Is this true? What about torch's how are they with other corals?

all Eupyllia sp. including the frogspawn, torch, hammer, have very powerful stings, as long as you place them high, they will be alright, and IME they do have sweeper tentecles, don't know about the 20cm though, I think that Galaxia corals would prop be the worst coral as far as that goes, also watch out for Bubble corals (Plerogyra) (spelling?)

they can burn right through coral tissue

if you do decide on an anemone I would think about upgrading the light.
