anenome feeding

The LFS advised that when my clown fish host with the anenome, it will feed it. How does the relationship work? How does it feed it?

Any other info you may think will be helpful in regards to keeping the bubble tip anenome would be appretiated.

Ps. just wanted to say that this site is fantastic and the help has been great.

you still may need to feed the anemone directly. i would try a very varied diet, but most like bits of fish.

give it as much light as you can.

My maroon clown will grab large chunks of food - like Formula One - and quickly swim it down to his bubbletip anemone. Anything smaller - like brine shrimp... the fish keeps for himself!

But I agree with Geoff... you should feed your anemone in addition to what the clowns may offer. Mine likes formula one cubes and shrimp.

My BTA acts much like Heyoos. We feed our anenomes monthly with a third of a medium shrimp and weekly with Marc Weiss
Combo Vital. The rest of the food comes from photosynthesis, filter feeding, and the Clarkii spitting food into the anenome from time to time. I think the anenome also gets some food from the Clarkii wastes, but I am not sure. But I haven't seen our Clarkii poop outside or inside the anenome, but it does occasionally have gas while zooming across the tank.

Bubbles, tiny bubbles...

Anemones and clown fish live in a form of symbiotic relationship. The clowns if they have enough food will then give extra to the anemone. I've had them "store" their food in the anemone. They'll put it near the outside and when the anemone gets it near the center tha clown will move it back out. So be sure to feed your anemone. I feed mine three large pieces of shrimp per week.
In return the clownfish get protection offered by the anemone.

Jim,

Three pieces a week? How big is your anenome? When I try to feed mine more than twice a month they won't accept the food and it falls to the tank floor. I have to net it before the crabs or fish grab it and it decays in the tank.

I can't imagine trying 3 a week.

Yep not only 3 a week..... but all at the same time. It's somewhere between 20 and 24 inches across. It's pretty big. Like I've said many times in thsi forum.. I know I should sell it... but it's just so darn gorgeous and cool..I can't get rid of it.
