Anemone Won't stop growing!

Ok this anemone is getting out of control. I suppose I could just return it to the LFS.

Check out the before and after pics:

How horrible!!! You need to get it to divide somehow (I have no idea how one does that).

LOL. I always try to tell people that when they're considering getting one. Trade it back to the LFS.

I feel your pain.

I also have a anemone that is going bonkers. It didn't start growing like crazy until I got a maroon clown for it.

I had read in a thread where a guy had some LR fall on his anemone and it tore the tissue. This caused the anemone to drop the torn tissue and a new anemone was born.

Well knowing that I decided to take a pair of scissors and made a 1inch long wedge looking cut into mine hoping it would split. Well it healed in just a couple days and now a little over two weeks it does not look like it is going to spit, actually spread out further.

It is attached to a piece of LR at the bottom of my aquascape so there is no way for me to pull the rock out to get him off. I may have to try and peel him off and offer him for sale or see if a local LFS can sell him. I hate to do it since I have had it for almost 4 years.

Thanks.

Is it likely that the Maroon Clown that is hosting it now will become stressed if I remove it from the tank? Or will it just take up residence somewhere else in the tank?

Your clown will be fine. But I would be prepared for some finger nipping while you're removing the anemone.

At least you can frag him and trade with fellow reefers.

What worked for me twice was finger-feeding shrimp that I bought at the local fishmonger. I would break the shrimp up into mouth size morsels. At every feeding the tentacles would get engourged with seawater. Then within a week I would see the seam beginning to develop along the mouthline of the anemone. I've have two splits in this manner. One three-way.

Thanks Hommeworks.

I'll have to give that a shot. I really don't want to get rid of the Rose Anemone I have just wnat him to get smaller so it won't irritate other corals.

You said every feeding, how often did you feed yours? Ever since I got the Maroon, I have not feed mine & it still has been growing like crazy.

Once a day feedings worked for me. I put the shrimp pieces right on the little guys lips. Sometimes I have to swat my clown away or he grabs the food. Sometimes I get the clown to take the food from my fingers.

Funny what was said about the Maroon Clowns. I have one that thrashes the tar out of me every time I reach into the water. Mine's in love with a finger leather and is perfectly happy if I'm not messing around his turf. What a predictable species...always hear stories of identical behavior. I know Johnny can relate! If you're concerned about your clown, don't worry. He'll just beat you up and dig holes until you make him happy again...
