Anemone Newbie Lighting
One more newbie question(s)....I wanted to start some Anemone for my clowns and wanted to know what kind of lighting I should use. Right now I have the basic hood that comes with the tank and 1 bulb. My tank is a 30gall show, with LO and LR. Any help would be greatly appriciated...

Paul,
I know this isn't the answer you wanted, but host anemones are actually quite difficult to keep and are not recommended for beginners. Most die after a short time. If you are determined to try it anyway, host anemones have lighting requirements similar to corals. 100-150W of VHO or MH lighting is probably adequate for your tank.

I agree with SAT... I'd encourage you to look at alternate hosts for your clowns (as they don't need an anemone at all), not only because they are indeed difficult to keep, but also because you'd be looking at a large and expensive lighting upgrade.

Thank you for all the advise. What would be something that a newbie could do to make the tank look cool. Right now all I got is LR...anything?

Saltwater tanks always look cool. Actually, if you look at the rock, you should be noticing all sorts of cool things.
With the lighting you have, there's not much other than fish you can keep. However, for now, start thinking about fish (run ideas by us, so you don't accidentally fall in love with something that needs a bigger tank), get some books, and read read read! I don't know how long your tank has been up, but don't plan on adding anything until it finishes cycling, which takes a few weeks.

Its been up about 1 month. I plan on adding somemore LR to is so that will back me up a couple weeks. Where I work at my boss has 2 companys. They eBay company and his fish company. "River City Aquatics"...its West Coast largest wholesaler of tropical fish. I was going to take some pictures of there wearhouse to give you guys an idea of how big it is. I have been talking to the manager that runs the fish department and she has been giving me advise. She gave me some of there sand/rock/water to get my tank going. And she also tested my water. When I walk throug there I see all these cool fish and have been picking out wich ones that I plan on getting. Right now I only have couple clowns swimming around. With the light that I have right now is ok I guess for what I have. I plan on picking up a bow 75 gal acrylic tank for $10....yea $10!!!! Some guy said that it wouldn't fit his space and his wife was nagging at him...I got him to $10 from $50!!! anyways, I need all the info I can use. I just currently rigged up my W/D and now I got that running. Before I had a booty Wisper, but hey....it was doing its job...

dont quote me on this, but no, i think that's a different type of light.
when you say your mom has a uv light for her flowers, are you talking about the blue plant grow bulbs? if so, i'd say it's different. i use blue plant grow bulbs for photography, and i pay about 2 bucks a bulbs, but the uv sterilization bulbs are waaaaaay more than that. so i THINK it's something completely different.
btw: fish wholesaler/warehouse.....c'mon man, get us all some great wholesale direct prices lol or at least some free samples

I just love the title of this thread, no offense meant but from what I've read, there really isn't much that's harder to keep alive then an anemone.
