Anemone...

Hello all... I have been in the hobby for quite some time now and something odd happened just under an hour ago...

After adding Coral Accel .. Calcium.. and phytoplank.

My Anemone has shrivveled up quite a bit.. I am hoping she will spread back out.. but she is looking quite stringy... Any ideas ?

I have added new Pictures to my web site.. if you would like to have a look..

http://fish.sustainedhits.com/

This tank is about a 6 month setup... I recently moved into a new home and had to start over..

75 Gallon Tank.. got a Fuge.... CPR Bak Pak II ... Two Fluvals 404's..

No Sump or Wet dry filtration...

350Watts Lighting total.. one 40W Actnic.. on a Strip...

Any input on this matter is greatly appreciated... thanks...

Give it some time...they have a tendency to shrivel up and bounce back. If it lasts longer than a couple of hours then you may want to take a closer look.

is this the first time you have added these supplements? was the Ca in liquid form? just wondering if you have changed the chemistry in the tank. do you have a Ca test kit?

how does it look now? how long have you had the anemone? do you know what kind it is?

She is a bubble.... My enormous Clown.. loves it... pics are at http://fish.sustainedhits.com/

I have added some of these before... The new calcium buffer I am using is new to me.. but I have ntohing but good things about it..

Reef Calcium is the brand. Anemone is about 2 months old...

it opened back up within an hour or so.. and this morning was in full bloom again... I was just wondering if I was stressing or damging it when those chems. go in...Should I be dripping the stuff in rather then mix and drop...

are you dumping it into the tank or into the sump. most people dump it into the sump so that it has a little longer to mix evenly into the system. dripping would be better if you have the ability to.

glad to hear the anemone has puffed back up again.

Here's a link to making a doser. This is used for dripping Kalkwasser but you can use it to dose any chem by dripping. And it costs under $15 to make.

The elements are not what caused your anemone to shrink. They go through a water exchange process that causes them to dehydrate (most of their water) and then rehydrate. Mine does this like clock work daily. As long as the experience isn't prolonged to multiple hours your anemone is fine.

I just made mine last night. I got a 1.75 litre rubbermaid drink container. I had some 1/4" air tubing laying around, and a gang valve. I drilled a 1/4" hole half an inch from the bottom. I pushed the airline tubing in about 1" just a little bit, used krazy glue gel to seal the hole and hold the tube in place. attached the gang valve about six inchches down, aand let it dry overnight.
Works nice, simple and for under $10 bucks
