White spots on Tang
I have a blue tang and i noticed last night that it has small white spots/dots on its body. Is that Ich? I have 1 yellow tailed damsel, a royal gramma, a yellow tang and 2 f. percula clowns in a 65g.
Check water yesterday and all test normal except that mywater is very hard of which I know that due to area, and my Ph tested at 8.0.

Yep, sounds like ick. Do you have cleaner shrimp? If not, you could try a pair (they work better together). My hippo tang used to park himself in front of the cleaners at least twice a day. Very cool to watch. Some smaller fish won't let the cleaners climb on them, but many larger ones will. Your current fish shouldn't (you never really know) decide that the cleaners make a good snack.

I have had the same problem. You can give him a quick freshwater bath. (net the fish & dip it in a bowl of fresh water- 5-10 sec.) This wil attack the bacteria. If you are a lover of tangs or butterflies a cleaner shrimp works if the fish is large or a UV sterilizer is a great investment. I use a sterilizer

I read doing a search about dipping him in freshwater...thanks for the time as I was about to post HOW LONG????
Next...I also read about feeding with Garlic. Do I still need to do that? How much garlic? How long? No one really says. I feed the vegitable green sheets (1 in ch square) should I soak that?
Then....Do I still need to add that Kik-Ich stuff? I dont have a hospital tank. Can I add that stuff directly to the display tank?

I don't know anybody who has used garlic. I wouldn't use it.
How many white parasities are on it? Is it a new fish? Ick can be brought on by stress. I would try the baths first before introducing meds.

he has about 10 -15 spots on each side of body. I will dip him and wait and see. I got him from a friend about 2 weeks ago. Probably stress as gramma tormented him at first.

If you're going to dip him, make sure the pH and temp of the freshwater is the same as the tank. You can buy a product from the freshwater section at the lfs that buffers water to 8.2

you should dip him longer than that, 5-10 shouldn't do anything at all, when I dip I always do it for 6-7 minutes
BTW Clownfish can be in freshwater for hours
and garlic is a good thing to feed IMO
soak the seweed in it

Horge wrote an article on garlic recently - I'm sure it's on the site. That would be worth your while to check out.
Tangs are so prone to ich, I'd try to not stress him at this point...
Sorry I don't have more time to write... gotta run!

I have the same problem on the same fish..
seconds of fresh water dipping will not work.. I dipped my blue tank for 7-10 minutes and he did fine and the ick fell right off the next day.. but you will need to use medications cuz the ich still exist in your tank and it will attack your blue tang again.. beleive me it just happened to me last week i used a product called NO-ICH by ecolibrium and it worked like a charm

I went to my LFS at lunch today and asked about meds and they said because I am running a reef tank that I cant use meds. I know i will have to get a fish trap and get him as he is a fast and tricky little bugger.
Is this NO-ICH reef safe? I know i need to reduce his stress, but wont catching him produce more stress?
Theymentioned Reef Vital DNA to put in my tank. What about that?

ohh and another thing, like the others mentioned on the above threads matching freshwater PH and temp as close to your aquariums as possible is important to reduce shock to the tang. also reduce your lighting and raise the temp to 83 degrees max while medicating cuz ick is attracted to light reduction of lighting will help kill the ick in your tank and it will not survive hotter temp..
