Sick Clown?

My clown seems to have some sort of infection or Fungus... Its a black patch that has grown in size over the months underneath his mouth mainly but also in other very small small spots towards the bottom of his body. He seems to have gotten this since he started using a patch of zoanthid polyps as a host a few months ago. I've taken the zoanthids out of the tank. He swims, eats and seems to be completely fine but I'm not sure what this could be caused by other than the zoanthids stinging him.

IMO, it just looks like the normal color pattern. Your fish will almost always change colors as they grow and mature, some more than others. A Koran angel changes from blue/black to green/yellow.

Is the skin flaking at all or just getting darker in color? HTH

I've never noticed any flaking or any other type of negative signs other than the blackening of the surface. I would estimate he's about 3 years old now.
I know some fish change color as they mature but never heard of anything like this in the common clown.

When my maroon clown changed color I totally freaked. Like you, I thought maybe it was an association with a coral she had taken up with but she lost all color in patches, looked like leprosy. Then when her color started coming back in, she got very dark. She is almost black now with just the white striping.

I have a flame angel that has started to brown or "tan" on the top of his head. Don't laugh, but I though it may have been from the new MH lights I installed. Perhaps it is from him maturing?
