dog face puffer??

I have a dogface puffer that is about 6inches long and today after lights on he was covered in white spots but the spots have no particular shape they are all different some round some oblong it's not ich so what I was wandering if they is a fungus or something that they are prong to or another desease that looks like this. there is a stars and strips puffer in the tank as well and he has nothing on him. the dogface is eating like a horse and swimming around as usual also.
the 2 puffers sleep side by side and the Stars and stripes likes to dig down into the sand alittle bit to sleep(kinda like making a bed for himself) could the dog face be picking stuff up from the sand that is sticking to his body I know they are scaleless and have a mucus type sheeting over there body so thats why I am wandering if this might be a probability.
another thing is the heater went on the fritz last night and this morning the tank was at 95 degrees it killed my beutiful blk volitan lion that was in the tank the rest of the inhabitants survived.

thanks
for any info

Mike

BTW they are all on a selecon and garlic soaked diet from a bout with ick a couple of weeks ago.

Might be sand particles. If the other one is healthy keep up the regimen you are on and slowly get the tank temp back down. lots of water movement for O2 exchange. I fh they are other wise healthy you might be OK . Not sure on other disease, thats not my forte

I have a sharpnosed puffer(Canthigaster valentini) and I noticed some spots on him a few days ago and then I noticed he was up in the heavy current in front of the powerhead and stayed there for awhile and then returned every so often and now I don't see the spots! Who knows! Just thought I would share! Johnny

P.S. Sorry about the lion!

Mike, hanging on the top and in the current is a sign on O2 deprivation. That coupled with you seeing white spots and it's a puffer.
Puffers/filefish/boxfish are notorious parasite magnets. They don't handle FW dips that well either. They do take kindly to hypo treatments.

Do a search for hyposalinity. Let me know if you need more help.

In the mean time, you are right, lower the temp as much as you can (I would try for 74-76f) that will buy you more time. I don't want to get your hopes up, but I've seen lowering the temp effect what seemed to be a cure.

this may be an odd Question but do puffers shed there skin or slim coat ?after looking at him closer it looks as though the slim coat is coming up in places and thats where I am seeing a whitish flim show up but his actual skin doesnt have any damage on it?
all others in the tank are happy and being there normal piggy selves including him but he lingers around the top I have added some more circulation at the top of the tank so if it is O2 related there is a little more going into the tank.
any other ideas or something else that I can do that I havent thought of yet??
thanks
Mike
I will see if he will sit still for a photo later on and see if that helps out with any advice..

the dogface past away this morning I think the heater insadent along with whatever else was going on with him was just to much for him to handle. the only other casualty of the heater was my blk vol lion all other tank inhabitants are doing great.
I got up this morning and checked on him about 6:30am and just before I left for work about 7:30am he was gone. it was a big change from yesterday though he was acting normal.
