Blue tang losing color?

Why is my blue tang losing color? I see alot of them faded at the LFS. Mine had very nice coloring when I bought him now he is fading? Why is this?

Shack , how big is it and how long have you had it. Are you feeding it commercial foods or reef mush or Nori? Do you add Selcon to its food. Food and stress are usually the main issues with tangs and their ability to deal with disease on their own.
Is the color fade constant or more pronounced in the evening?

Ive had it about 2 months, hes about 2 inches...very small still. Im feeding a seaweed select mix, a mush mix(clams, shrimp, lobster the usual) plus the usual pellets and flakes. What is Selcon? The color fade is fairly evident throughout the day.

Selcon is a vitamin/HUFA mix that provides a lot of missing amino acids, and other good stuff. Tangs ned a lot of veggies in their diet, I would recommend getting some nori from the market or the pressed seaweed sheets, smear Selcon on and have a strip of it available at all times for him to graze on

Is it a Hippo or ABT? Hippo Tangs as they mature seem to lose color behing the eyes and on their belly. I'm going to assume that it is a Hippo because the ABT's are yellow as a juvenile and mutate into a blue color.

Atrlantic Blue Tang, looks like the yellow tang as a juv then gets blue. I assume you have a regal, or Hippo, Paracathus hepatus, the "Standard" blue tang from Nemo

You mentioned his colour changing "throughout the day"... is he pale in the morning, but brightens up later? This is more or less normal - they fade in the dark.

Most pasty looking tangs (Yellow Tangs - Zebrasoma flavescens and Blue Tangs - Paracathus hepatus) are so because of either bad diet, or poor water conditions (or both!). They are prone to HLLE - head and later line disease.

The advice given regarding dietary supplements and veggies is good - and watch your water quality, esp. nitrate and also check for stray voltage. I've attributed HLLE I've seen to any/all of those.
