Hi Folks,

Remember about 3 weeks ago. I posted "most fish go to heaven"

well, I'm not an expert, so forgive me if I'm wrong.

I was doing some reserch on the net and what I have treat my tank with.

1st., I lower the saltaner down to 1.01
(if u have inverts, A MUST REMOVE FROM TANK)

2nd,. I starve the fish, and I take a fresh garlic and grind it small as possible and I dump it in the tank and the fish will eat a little bit.
then the rest of it attached to the filter and will vanish.

This cycle will take two weeks.

Now my tank is hell of a happy camper.

Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas and Happy Fishy Fishy

ich is a such a problem because of population density a fish in the wild would never be subject to some many adult parsites in the wild the fishes immune system can fight off the few parasites it comes into contact with in a tank there is no escape from the sheer volume of the parasite. effective treatment is to reduce the popultion through medication, removale of the fish or uv sterlization (i belive this is why jerel likes it so much).

Hey horge, I see you are in the Philippines. I was there fom 1981 to 1985, at Clark AB. I loved it there. The people are friendly and the ocean is of course beautiful! How are things there now? Has the government cleaned up any?

Saying that Ich is present in all saltwater aquariums is contrary to scientific evidence. It is NOT present in all systems. It is an obligate parasite that requires a host fish to complete its life cycle or it dies. It can be prevented from entering a system with proper quarantine and/or treatment. It can be eliminated from a system with either an effective treatment or removing all fish for long enough to starve the parasite of food. Myths like saying ich is present in all tanks just complicates treatment and prevention.
The treatment with the highest success rate for treating ich is hyposalinity. It is also very safe to use with boney reef fish. Do not use with inverts, live rock, live sand, sharks, or rayfish. Hypo is a fantastically successful treatment, we should wish that we had such an effective treatment for some other fish diseases. Just keep and eye on the salinity, pH and alk daily. The pH tends to fall in diluted SW. The correct salinity for treatment is 16ppt or less, I recommend 14ppt. This translates to a specific gravity of 1.010 or 1.009 (recommended) depending on the water temperature. Treatment should last three weeks or more.

Terry:

Yes, it needs constant reminding that 'ich' is caused by a foreign parasite, and not by anything intrinsic to a fish. Thanks for the reminder, and especially for the dirty details on hypo.

You really should drop in more often

ChrisW:

Someone in government is definitely cleaning up.
The reefs are great, and the corals over at Subic have fully recovered from those volcanic eruptions of the mid-90's.

Thanks for the hello, and here's mabuhay and kamusta? right back at ya!
