Pink Knobby Cucumber Question

Any body have any comments on Pink Knobby Cucumbers.
Thinking of making it a new addition, but I have heard that if they die- they can add toxins to the tank & cause disease.
Any comment on Pros or Cons
Thanks

Can you post a pic?

I've seen toxic cukes being sold under very cute names.
One rough guide is that bright colors on a cuke are often a warning signal to would-be predators: "I am toxic".

A distinction that may help you in delving further into this issue:

Cuke-puke is the simple puking out of its guts. This can be triggered by stress, or may simply be done as a matter of good housekeeping: a new set of organs is eventually regenerated. The viscera are not necessarily 'toxic', though they will rot if left in the tank.

Cuke nuke is a defense response to stress. The cuke inflates with water, and then blasts it out of its butt along with toxins from 'Cuvierian tubules': a cloudy spew of death that will kill most fishes and crustaceans, in effect 'nuking' the tank.

Some cukes are more toxic than others, with many drab sand-sifters being nearly harmless.

Personally, when I see a cuke, I'm immediately thinking of how to prepare and cook it

I've had 3 of these in the shop for about 4 months. They found a "happy spot" with good water movement and they don't go anywhere. These are filter feeders, not sand munchers. In my experience, if there are no fish to nibble on them or powerheads to suck them in, you are generally as "safe" as you are going to be. I've seen similar animals perish peacefully and not "nuke", any cadaver must be promptly removed, of course, but I've also seen Sea Apple vs. powerhead -- the only thing we saved was the powerhead. Dunno why people sell those things -- NUKE was an understatement. Fish, corals, everything gone. Huge water changes and carbon came too late.

Chances are the pink one in the picture is toxic to some extent or other - but again, it will only 'nuke' if provoked.

Thumbs up

I've had a pink cuke for nearly two years. He did find a sweet spot right by the overflow and didn't leave until I knocked him down. He's inching his way back to that spot. Don't know if it had babies or not but 6 months ago I found two bright yellow cukes in the tank. They seem to stay put in one place too.
