Picture of My New Christmas Clam

I got this clam for Christmas this year. Thought you all would like to see it. It's a 4" T. maxima. What do you think?

Glad you all like it, I'm pretty pleased with it as well .

Casey, it's primarily dependent upon the lighting in my system. I don't target feed it at all. I do, from time to time (about once a week), add Tahitian Blend to my system, though. This guy's large enough, however, to the point where it's gaining a majority of its nutrition from its Zooxanthellae.

Paul.

it never fails that i get this really neat thrill when i see one of those beautiful giant clams. Each one is just so stunning. I think its the color contrast and the delicate intracacy of the pattern that just amazes me....

Absolutely Beautiful!

What a beauty!

We also got a Christmas Clam... Not as brightly colored (it's a derasa), but still a showpiece, because it's huge.

And let me tell you...when Danielle's clam closes...(esp. fast)...everyone knows it! She was telling me about a poor snail that fell in and then got shot out like a cannon ball. heh heh And yesterday, I got to watch it shoot sand about a foot or two down the tank when it closed up last night.

Yeah, he can make a mess. That poor snail... I accidentally knocked this turbo off the glass, and it fell almost into the clam, but the clam realized it and FOOM! that turbo went flying. Never seen that before, but it's a good defense system.

We don't have a *huge* tank... at least by reefer standards. It's a 135g. (Which most people think is huge, but we're running out of room.)
