Nudi Branch question

I just bought a nudi branch yesterday. The LFS told me that they do NOT eat algae or diatoms. I thought I saw that it does and will die if there isn't enough. Am I correct? Thanks ahead of time

What kind of nudi.....?

Pics?

From what i remember reading about nudis is that hey usually are able to feed on only one thing- like lettice Nudis can only feed on algaes- mainly hair algae. once the hair algae is gone, they slowly starve. There are other types of nudibranch that eat only soft corals. if they are placed in a tank where there are no soft corals, they will soon starve to death.

Whatever kind of nudibranch you bought, it is important to know what exactly it eats and make sure it gets it, it will not live otherwise. i just hope its a kind that eats something you can easily provide.

icebear is right, nudibranchs are very specific feeders. they can only eat one type of food, and sometimes only one species of food. some only eat a certain kind of algae, other only flatworms, and others only certain species of soft coral. i pic would help i figuring out what its feeding requirements are.

Mike a picture is worth a thousand words.

That one's called Phyllidiella elegans, which is actually just another color/shape variety of P. pustulosa. More than likely feeds on a particular tunicate. At least most in that group do.

You might try asking Bill > http://207.254.123.101/general.htm < if he has any specifics on what they eat.
