I picked up a small fighting conch about two weeks ago at my LFS after two hours of drip acclimation I put it in the tank, It then buried itself into the sand & I haven’t seen it since? Is this normal?

mine did the same thing. it hid under the sand for about a week and i tried digging it out a couple of times, but it would bury itself again. it's been out ever since and only goes under the sand for a couple of days at a time now...

how big do these guys get? I have a 45G tall, and I would like a fighting conch because I hear they are good for sand movement, but my reef friend says they are bulldozers to corals. what do you all think about it?

I think the "fighting" part of their name comes from their courting rituals. As for harming corals, I've had them for a year and no problems at all. they stay in the sand and go around anything of any bulk. They are bad to get off into corners and have a hard time getting out. I once thought I had a mantis, kept hearing a clicking noise. Turned out to be the conch, stuck in a corner and banging on the glass! They're really cool critters, and yes, they do disappear for days at the time into the sand.

i added one to my tank last week (the same time I took three hours to acclimate my algae blenny) and I saw his shell last night, empty what could have done this? the only questionable thing in my tank are the hermit crabs, most of which are very small, but I do have one pretty big one. any ideas?

hmmm....strange. my hermits are always around my conch but they haven't gotten to him, yet... maybe it was just an unhealthy conch to begin with. i ordered 3 online awhile back and they all died same day.

I bought this from a LFS under the lable Hawian Queen Conch. I've since seen photos of fighing conchs and it looks very much the same. Are they just different names? this one is about 3" long
Thanks,
