Question

fighting & queen conch

Hello,

Was wondering if I should put my conch in my new tank. The problem is that I have CC for my bed so will they have a problem with this? Should I give to my bro since he just started a 55 with a fine sand bed?

Jim, we find them every where down here, so CC won't hurt them. Just be sure you have enough for them to eat, if not Purina Rabbit Pellets will do.

Well my wife has one in her 20 gallon mini-reef tank and it has a 4" deep CC bed and is doing fine which surprises me! I would think they would do better in a DSB of fine sand! Anyone else have different opinions? Johnny

Pros and Cons

What are the good things and bad things about these two conchs? I am thinking about adding one or both to a 60 gallon DSB.

Mr. Ono, I don't have much info on them except I have been told to keep 1 per square foot of open sand. I hade 3 in my 38 and they look to be really going strong. I know when they are low on stuff to eat on the sand when they start to climp and eat off the rocks

Spanky, I have some TetraMin rich mix tablets do you think they will eat that. Has crude protein, fat, fiber, vitamin c, max. moisture, min. phoshorus in it.

Fighting conchs get much smaller than queens and so are better choices for small tanks. Both need open sand area to graze diatoms and cyano, but when small (up to 3") will take to rocks and glass to feed.

"....if not Purina Rabbit Pellets will do.."

Hooked, any vegetable based food will work! Spirolina pellets or wafers are good as are the Tetramin tablets that you have. You may want to break them up some so that you don't have to use the whole tablet-reduces waste and pollution.
