Looks like a red mithrax spp. to me, they eat algae, and I've never noticed them misbehaving in my tank. If the ends of its pincers are flattened like plates instead of sharp and pointy, it's most likely an algae eater. My live rock from tampa bay saltwater was CRAWLING with them (along with lots of other critters!), but they've mostly died off after 2 years. Looks to me like his claws are the blunt kind. Enjoy, but keep an eye on him!

to battle hair algae, switch to only distilled water.next put in two medium strenth streams of fine bubbles.this to bring co'2 to the top to feed your inverts and plantsand starve cyno-bacteria(hair).hair algae need co'2 to make sugar to feed themselves.also add a small poly filter to your filter.buy everything mail order its all half price.you'll need two or three.then add macro algae,c.racemosa the best if you have fish stop feeding for 2-3 days, they will not starve then feed vary little.you'll see the difference in 7-10 days.macro-algaes need iodine and liquid gold,to grow.keep reefing cyclere

His only really good use is Bisque... I had them come in on live rock before and like all other crabs they are opportunistic.

I found one the other night. Craw right into a hole of my new Ricodrea rock. Took the rock out right away and into a bucket with tank water. Keep poking into the hole with a small tooth pick until the crab make a run for it. With no place to go, the little one is done for at the bottom of the bucket.

well, i don't know where he's at now. i rearranged my liverock and didn't see him anywhere. but i will keep an open eye out for it. its very small, only about the size of a penny, so, i don't think the crab will cause too much trouble right away.
thanks for the responces, everyone!
