Blue linckia woes
My beloved and heretofore very healthy blue linckia has what looks to be a pretty serious boo-boo at the end of one of his/her arms. It looks like an injury (I wonder if I might have inadvertently squished it working in the tank). Any suggestions? This is (oddly enough) my favorite critter in the tank and I really hate to lose him (or her). I know that starfish have regenerative powers--I even briefly considered amputation. Should I just let nature take its course?

If the Blue linkia is healthy, and your water quality is good, then it should be able to regenerate. I would not do any amputations. Just let nature take it's course. Make sure you keep your water quality very high, and also make sure that there are no other creatures in the tank that are harrassing it. Try to keep it from becoming stressed out.
Good luck,
Andrew

Does the wound look like a small white hole or like the tissue underneath the blue "skin" has kind of erupted out the end of the arm?

Well in my 45 gal I have a large purple linckia. I once dropped a fairly large rock right on one of its arms (OUCH!). Part of it seemed to turn whitish about a day after, but it seemed to heal itself pretty well. They are beautiful creatures and I wish good luck to you! BTW, does anybody know how to pronounce "Linckia"??? I am probably embarrassing myself every time I say it to someone. Oh well, good luck!

The wound did look like an eruption of white stuff, with some blue tatters around it. I think it definately was trauma of some kind. The good news is that the tough little bugger seems to be on the mend--the white area is getting smaller and he/she continues to patrol the tank with undiminished vigor.
