Removing 'shrooms
Quick question...
How do I remove 'Shrooms from a rock? One of the little buggers has migrated right in the middle of my polyp colony and is kind pushing everybody around. I'm assuming theres a bit more to it than.."reach in tank, grasp stalk of mushroom, yank"
TIA!

No, that's pretty much it!
If you want to do it neatly, you can get a pairing knife and cut along the edge of the rock, peeling the shroom off as you go. The you can relocate the shroom or just let it float around until it finds a nice home. Either way will work. HTH

It helps to point a powerhead at the base in conjuction with the paring knife. That will make it more likely pop off on its own and reduce the chance of leaving tissue behind to grow a new shroom.

I had a shroom in a place I didn't want it and I did the same thing. I pulled it off and a piece broke off. In about 3 weeks I had another shroom about the size of a dime.

I have this problem all over my tank... good thing I like shrooms Yes be careful when you remove the shroom and try to get as much off the rock as possibe, I use a razor blade, or what ever is left may come back as a new critter (think of the hydra in Hurcules! How many heads did that thing have by the time he was done chopping....)

prismaco: i just unloaded a half dozen at the last coral swap, but when i get some growing again, ill thermos you a few if you want. i dont have anything too ritzy, some green stripe, some purple with spots of dark purple, and some blue stripes. there are a few really nice rocks of shrooms at the closest fish store, i am hoping someone buys them that is in the frag trading group so i can get my hand on some of them. if that happens ill toss you a couple of those too when i get them propigated.
you might want to look into getting in on that frag party in the bay area in a couple weeks... i think i read about it on RC, just search for Bay Area Fragging Party and you should find it. i used to live in chico, and i would have definately made the drive if i was still there having read about their past meetings and the nifty stuff that is available.
