Mounting a loose Colt Frag

I have a small Colt frag that somehow came unattached to a piece of LR (I think my urchin had something to do with it).

I tried 3 different times yesterday to reattach it using super glue. Every time I thought it was fine, only to look up later and see it floating off the rock again.

Are there any other methods to mounting it to the rock? Would a rubberband be too tight for the Colt?

I think a rubber band will work. However the best way for me was to find a frag with a small hole that was large enough for the end of the Colt to fit. I filled the hole with Lock-Tite and shoved in the frag. One tip I learned from Charles was to hold the frag upside down when you put it in the water. If it is a large piece of leather like a colt, I have also heard that you can take a toothpick and a rubberband it to a rock.

a tooth pick works good if your piece is small enough just push it through the base of the colt and take a rubberband and put it around both side's of the toothpick sticking out then wrap the rest of the rubberband around the rock you want to mount it to . after about 7 to 10 days pull the tooth pick out carfully.

Good luck. Colts are a PITA to mount. I'm 1 for 15, I think.

I Usually take a plastic toothpick and break it in half and stick both haves into the colt at opposing angles at different hights on the stock and then glue the toothpicks to a piece of rock and wait 2 weeks. This works about 90 percent of the time.

I actually am 3 for 3. But I used the lock tite and holely rock method.

Well I didn't have any plastic toothpics, so I just used the rubberband method last night. The frag looked okay this morning. I'll try some of the other methods if this doesn't work out.

Thanks everyone for your ideas.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has issues with Colts.

All I got with the "band" method was two frags where I had one... I have just about as good luck with it as Mrs Smith, but I have has some success with using mesh to hold the piece to a rock with holes... It has worked a couple of times. the stuff is just so dang slimmy!!!!

Mounting Colt

I had the most success with using two pieces of rubble rock and sandwiching the frag in between. Then bonding, or rubber banding the two pieces together.

Question

Best of luck... and I'm sorry but that is about all I can tell you. It has been my experience that the gluing method doesn't work because they naturally will produce additional slime and break free. The rubberband is the best, although it's also been hit and miss for me. They will sometimes split prior to bonding with the rock. I have a nice frag in my tank now that I have had for about 6 months, well I see it from time to time and I try to mount it again, I've had no luck with mounting and let it go hoping it will attach somewhere on it's own. Soft corals are tough, unless it's xenial, it seems to attach over night, by the way I have some if you want to give that a shot. Good luck,

Thanks for the offer Pirate, but I've already got my share of Xenia stalks multiplying in the 55.

So far the rubberband method is holding up. But I guess like everything else its just a matter of waiting...

Thanks again everyone for your help.
