That pretty much will work... Snip off a piece and try to get it to attach to something. Do this when the thing isn't in it's "closed up" phase. You can't really superglue these guys as they just pop off after a day or two. You can lightly elastic them, you can elastic them to something with a small net or you can run a piece of fishing line through them and attach them (though the hole is likely to remain permanently).
If you want to get really rambunctious, I've heard of numerous folks who lop the whole crown off, then cut the crown into a bunch of smaller pieces. The crown will supposedly regrow on the old stump and you will get a new one out of each cutting... I haven't done this though.
