Question

How do I propagate a toadstool leather

Well, that pretty much sums it up. How do I propagate a toadstool? I have proped umbrella/pompom? xenia and my colt with much success. I just cut a piece of and use a rubber band to LIGHTLY hold the cutting in place. Or, with the xenia, I will cut off 3 or 4 polyps, and put them in a small baby food jar with some gravel, and they are attached in a day or two.
Will this work with a leather?

That pretty much will work... Snip off a piece and try to get it to attach to something. Do this when the thing isn't in it's "closed up" phase. You can't really superglue these guys as they just pop off after a day or two. You can lightly elastic them, you can elastic them to something with a small net or you can run a piece of fishing line through them and attach them (though the hole is likely to remain permanently).

If you want to get really rambunctious, I've heard of numerous folks who lop the whole crown off, then cut the crown into a bunch of smaller pieces. The crown will supposedly regrow on the old stump and you will get a new one out of each cutting... I haven't done this though.

Check out the GARF page www.garf.org for more info on propogating these guys. They've got a section buried somewhere on their page.

As always, you need to have good water quality, yadda yadda yadda. Check out the Garf site. They've got pretty detailed intructions. Good luck.
