Question

Do you acclimate your corals

Just wondering what people do for acclimating corals. I have had many shrooms and leather corals that I just put right into the tank and do nothing and have never had any die. If you do acclimate give a little discription of what you do please.

For me, it depends on where I am getting them from. If the salinity and pH are the same as the store water, and my tank water, then I just float the bag. Once the temps are matched, I move the coral in. Otherwise, I float the bag till temps match, then I pour out a little over half of the store water. (in to a sink) Then I do a slow drip process. Once the bag is twice as full, I again, pour some of the water out into the sink. I repeat the process again. Sometimes it takes anywhere from 15min to 45min, pending upon what I am acclimating.

I float the bag until the temp is the same. If s.g. and pH are similar, I'll take out 1/2 the water, add tank water, leave it floating for about an hour then put the coral in the tank. No problems so far.

I generally do a similar thing, although I have a hands-free method, so it's really easy.

I float the bag in the sump, and use a drip-line at the same time from the refugium that is above the sump. That way, I can drip things without having to worry about temperature differences, and it works wonders for ultrasensitive stars. I do it for corals too, but mostly because it's a really easy way to do it, and I can just leave and forget about it.

Basically, I'm lazy. I just have a system in place that encourages laziness.

I acclimate the same way, float the bag for about 20-30 min then i pour out 1/4 or 1/2 of the store water out and slowly pour about 1/4 or 1/2 of my tank water.. i repeat this process 2-4 times, depending on what type of species it is..
