currently I am conducting a simple do it yourself experiment based on water flow with xenia. I split up a small colony and placed 1 in a area of very low water current and placed the other in a area of higher water flow. I have noticed over the past few weeks that the colony that is in a area of higher water flow looks better (pulsing more frequently and polyps are extended more often and generally just look better) the other small colony doesnt pulse as frequently and the polyps are not fully expanded etc. I realize that corals have different water flow requrements but have never really known why. My question is why do different corals require different currents. I was thinking of oxygen exchange, more food more often etc.
Cheers
