attaching coral, polupes, mushrooms
My cousin gave me some clippings from his corals. and some advice on how to get them to attach to rock. I'm curious how people get them attached to their live rock? Advice? Ideas?

Depends on the type. For polyps, I generally use super glue gel (just the regular stuff), because it works quickly and won't hurt the polyps to be out of water for awhile.
Shrooms are tough... might want to stick them in a dixie cup of rubble (in the tank) and wait awhile. Then, you can epoxy the rubble they're on where you want them.
Leathers are a bit tougher, IMHO, but still not too bad.
My general rule is that the slimier it is, the harder it is to mount.
What all do you have there?

you can use fishing line also to hold soft and slimey corals in place.

Just let the shrooms go where they want, it accomplishes 2 things.
a) they can go where they feel most comfy and happy
b) pedal laceration. as they move, they will lacerate the base of the stalk, causing more to grow. (supposedly)

i've been trying to glue leathers for the last 3 months...it dosen't work for me sewing them seems to work pretty well- unwaxed, unflavored dental floss or thin fishing line is good...sew them to a rock....if you can't get the thread tight enough to the rock, wrap a rubber band around the sewed rock, pinning the threads under the rubberband.
i have had good luck gluing mushrooms though- i smosh them on gobs of glue and as they try to escape the glue to reattach elsewhere they sever their bases and reattach an inch or so away and leave a liddle baby shroom in the glue...then i have two shrooms

Its also sometimes easy to put frags in holes or cracks in LR , always handy to have some golf ball sized pieces for attaching frags to. The monofilament or floss works OK , as do rubberbands tho some things it cuts right thru, in which case you can use strips of wedding veil materiel, theis is valuable stuff, worth picking up a yard or so from the fabric store.

for leathers or capanella or similar types of softies you can put a toothpick through the base of the frag and use a rubber band around each side of the tooth pick to hold it down on the rock for about 7 to 10 days . after that time take off rubberband and gently out tooth pick, the frag should have grabed hold of the rock by this time.
