Attaching Colt

I have had success in the past attaching mushrooms and other soft corals with superglue. However, my Colt suffered a great deal of damage when I moved and while it is recovering nicely I can't get it attached to anything. I first tried a rubberband but that split it in two and I've tried superglue several times now with both halves with no luck.

It doesn't seem happy unattached but I can't seem to help it.

I have found colts to be one of the most difficult corals to get to attach. The method I have used in the past with the most success is to place the base of the coral in a hole in a rock. Use a rubberband loosely to hold the coral in place. Put the rock in an area of the tank with very little current. The coral needs to not move around a lot until it has attached. Any pressure by the rubberband will cut into the tissue. It has taken me about two months in the past to get a coral to attach and many times I find the coral has come loose and floating around in the tank. Too frusterating for me.

Good luck.

I found they would attach to rock they came in contact with, whether I wanted them to or not, so I have takin cuttings and wedged then in place with small rubble rock, or wrapped strip of bridal veil to softly hold them

If you have the room, you can take a small cup, fill it with rubble, and nestle the piece in there. Then take some fish netting, and rubberband it over the lid. This will help keep hermits, and such out. If the rubble is high enough, the net will hold it in place. Just an idea. All I did for mine was nestle it into a small crevice, and after a week..it started to take off.

I like the tule method. Basically you can use the stuff that wedding veils are made out of and use it to place on top. See pic below.

I use the nylon (I think it's nylon ) mesh bag the onions or oranges come in along with a rubber band. I do this with smaller pieces. For larger stuff I use nylon cable ties. You can adjust the tension and when the leather attaches, it's easy to remove.
