Are there still Phytoplankton users out there?

I was wondering if there is anyone still using phytoplankton. What applications to you use it for and does it help to feed it to live brine shrimp? TIA

Happy Holidays Everyone!

FYI: Anyone interested, Strombus Maculatus Snails for auction at eBay. Please do a search or email me.

I finished off my first gallon a few weeks ago and havent had a chance to replace it yet. Hoping to get the new concentrated version to try as I feel it helps feed a lot of sandbed infauna and the corals may get some collateral benefit along with there daily feedings of "reef mush"
To be honest I don't know what aldult brine shrimp feed on, most get fed to the tank to soon for nutrition to be an issue, except for the fact that after the yolk sac is absorbrd on the naupali they are about as nutritious as popcorn. I have heard of people using Selcon to increase their food value by gut loading before feeding to seahorses and such but I don't know if it is directly absorbed or if they are feeding marine rotifers or some synthetic invert food.

Hello,

Try marine snow by two little fishy.
10 bucks for a 16 once bottle that last more then a mouth. I personly think this is the best free floating food for corals. Its really what you find in the ocean and great for brine shrimp
pet warehouse sells this probuct and is back by many well know reefkeepers.

I been using it for 3 months and notice a huge differnece in my tank and no problems with aglae out break what so ever and it is cheap

Yes and Marine Snow is classified as junk by even more well known reef keepers. The stuff is almost all water. Those well known reef keepers that support it also own the company. The phytoplankton is a much better product.

I have used it for two months and read the pro and con discussions of marine snow. I just ordered two more bottles today. I keep mine refrigerated. It is mostly water but so are the competitors. Doesn't foul the tank up either.

Thumbs up

DT's live phytoplankton is the best IMO.
I'm using the new concentrated recipe. My clams and corals love it!

I use ESV Spray-Dried Phytoplankton. It is a powdered form of phytoplankton which is spray-dried to perserve the nutritional value of the food as opposed to freeze-dried methods which are, to my understanding, inferior.

It's easy to use and inexpensive. You simply mix the powder with RO or tank water and stick it in a blender for one minute. They recommend using it once a day with all fine mechanical filtration removed.

I use it every other day.

From what I understand, phytoplankton is a very important additive as it is the basic building block of the complex food chain we know as plankton. Phytoplankton jump starts your food chain by providing the basic nutrition for zooplankton which is more readily used by corals and inverts.

I don't know how effective it is, but I can tell you that shortly after adding it to my tank, my open brain coral extends his tenticles out to feed.

Hey guys,

The use of DT's can also depend on the type of tank you are shooting for. If you want a softie and non-photo corals that yes plankton here is really good choice. If you go more towards a SPS dominated tank than you do need as much.

Just deteremine what creatures you have and the feeding requirements set for them.

I have been using DT's for about a year now. It has shown great results with such thing as tunicates, sponges, and non-photo gorgs.

Just start out with small doses and work up to the tank's needs.
