ok, i just got home from the lfs and picked up my first coral. i an't tell you what it is though. not until it's doen acclimating, and i get a pic of it, preferably after it opens.
how long should it take for something to open? i know thats a dull question since you dont even know what the something is.. also, how long should i acclimate the something ?

Pretty exciting isn't Jay? Getting that first coral! I bet Zoo's as well. I have been eyeing some awesome zoo's at the LFS with green centers and at first they wanted $98 and then it was $78 and they are still there! I hope the price is right so I can get them!

yep zoos it is. these have green centers and brown edges. not hte most colorfull things in the world, but they look pretty cool to me. the piece of rock they are on is about 3"x4" and it's pretty well covered. this particular piece has been at the lfs for about 4 weeks, and they are open everytime i go in there. only cost 22 bucks with my discount. i jsut counted, there are about 75 buttons on the rock. and i see about 15 that are already splitting at the bottoms!!
so now that you all know what it is... what would be the best placement? low, med or high in the tank, based on what i have for lighting and flow.
i dont havea lot of options for going too high, since the rock isn't stacked too high to begin with, but i could do some arranging on the aquascaping.
also the tank is only 18 " deep, and i have the two vho super actinics, and the blue 03 actinic no, and the 10k daylight no.

Congrats on the zo's how long will it take before you want another? Answer ASAP! LOL I got a finger leather 3 weeks ago, my first official coral. Iwanted more but seem to have an redish/brown alge problem on my sand bed, so I'll have to wait it out until I get it resolved.
I think I will get zo's for my second, hopefully soon too.

I WIN! I WIN! My snails will be soooo happy! Just think an all expense day at thefatman's day spa for molluscs!!! WOO HOO!
Seriously Jay, zo's are medium light and medium current, so placement is pretty much wide open. They will spread to other rocks and form a 'mat' that will 'glue' the rocks together. They are photosynthetic, but you probably know by now that they enjoy a nice target feeding on occassion.
BTW, do they look like these?
