Sun coral feeding question

Hi all,

I have a sun coral, have had it for a few weeks now, and have steadily been feeding it. I have been trying to find a way to supply small amounts of constant feeding to maximize the time it has its polyps out and here is my idea.

I have a fairly well stocked 125 gallon SPS tank with a 60 gallon refugium and a 20 gallon sump. I would like to take a one gallon jug, fill it with salt water, drop in a pencil's eraser size of cyclop-eeze and use an air valve to regulate my drip rate into my sump.

Is this a good idea or even feasible? Is it too much constant feeding? Would it cause an algae bloom? Would a different type of food be better or is it a bad idea all together?

Thanks,

Eddi

I would think that constant feeding will lead to some problems re: algae and such, I feed mine directly with a turkey baster about once a week.

i would think that as long as you didnt overfeed (put in more food than can be consumed....or at a faster rate than the inhabitants can keep up with) you might be ok? ive heard of people doing what you do. dont know how successfull they were. anybody else done anything like this? bump....

I have heard others using a feeding "hat". Basically it's a 2L pop/soda bottle with the bottom cut off, just place it over the coral and feed through the top. As I have read in other forums, these guy's feed brineshrimp for the sun corals. This way the moochers are kept away and the corals gets to eat unmolested.

I would think if you feed during the time when the lights where on, you could train it to have the polyps out, but might have to have it in the shade.
