heliofungia/fungia on bare bottom?
bad idea or good idea? they say to place on a 'soft bottom.' but glass isnt really soft...its just smooth. anyhow, would fungia or helio not work on a bare bottom?
if not, I suppose I could always make it a dish of sand....
speaking of dishes...anyone have a good recipie for pot roast??
(I just thought I'd get that part out of the way right at the beginning!)

Crock pot recipe..... mmm...
the easiest one i have is the PickleJuice Potroast, you save up your Garlic Pickle juice and just cook your roast in it. Don't add water, just cover the roast in the juice and cook it for about 5 hours.... its awesome, no kidding!!!!
As far as the fungia being on the floor of a BB, i don't really know exactly why they recommend a soft bottom (*snicker*), but i might venture to guess that its cause they are flat and maybe don't do as well at an angle as they might end up at if perched on a pile of rocks- but thats my only guess.... i was considering getting one myself, and didn't even think of the BB thing might not be right for them. Maybe it isn't a bad thing, i think as long as they are fed properly and get the light they need.

I think they are easily damaged and that is why the recommendation for soft bottoms.
Ohh, and try this; Take big slab of cow, sprinkle liberally with granulated beef bullion cracked black pepper, and rosemary, top with family size can of condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup (or Cream of Celery), don't add any other liquid, add fresh veggies such as 'shrooms, carrots, celery, whatever appeals to you, and bake real slow in a covered pan. This would be good in a crockpot I imagine. Ummm

Hello - this is just my experience - I've been barebottom (w/ starboard) for at least a couple of months now. I too was worried about the affect on my fungia - but it's never looked better. It's growing and eats well. Here's a very amateur attempt at a pic under atinics.
ps: everyone should sleep better tonight knowing I didn't add a recipe or cooking advise

Erin, a healthy fungia should have flesh covering the entire bottom so check out any damage before you buy one. That's why you don't want them on rock or anything that will damage them.
Barebottom should be fine, just don't expect them to stay where you put them. They move around and can sting anything they touch. I've got one on the sandbed with the corals around it sitting higher on l.r. It's worked for me, mine moves around until it 'hits the walls' so to speak.
hth
P.S., Re: Pot roast recipes -- when I do a roast in the slow cooker I cover it with undiluted cream of mushroom soup mixed with a little white wine

Hmmhmmmmm! I see we have now graduated from bare bottoms, discussed dirty bottoms, and now moved on to fleshy bottoms! What's next?....porno reefs?
I'm not gonna post a pic of it 'cause it is obscene, but you should see my toadstool.
