Flower Pot, bad mistake for me.

hey everyone, my friend bought a filter from some store and returned it, they only gave him store credit. so he just gave me it and i had to use it that day so i got a flower pot. the only thing there that was saltwater and that was left over. everything else was like over 60 dollars. so like ummm bad mistake for me cause my tank isnt strong enough for it. im running 2 x25's and its a 25 tall tank. running 2 power heads. what do i feed it? how do i take care of it. when it was at the store the stems were all the way out of the hard coral. but when i took it home, its not even out of the coral. all the heads are staying inside. need some help here. is it gona die? is there anything i can do to help it? i will prepare a casket now just incase.

ill try to post pictures and update you on whats going on.

hi,
there are two type of flowers' one with 12 heads and one with 24.. i have the 24 heads... for the life of my i can not remember the names right now.. i kow as soon as i hit the submit nutton i will remember....to the question...

if you can plac e it a mid to upper range of your tank then it should be find. keep an eye on your tank levels.. mine really hates any change in SG..

as far as feeding...don't ready have too, but can supp. with any liq. coral food.. they will take what is in the water itself... how long has it been in your tank now..?.. it may take a day or two before it opens....
BTW the 12 head is much more harder to take care of than the 24 head version...

Hi Roy....

The 12 "petaled" one is gonipora, the 24 "petaled" one is alveolopora (?spelling). The alveo has a better survival rate in captivity.

One issue with keeping these corals is that they are normally found in lagoonal areas, where the water is "dirty."--as opposed the sterile conditions found on the reef. Our skimmer, refugium-driven clean tanks are incapable of providing the constant nutrition that these corals require.

Someone feel free to jump in here, as I am commenting from memory.....

hang in there...

Minor point Stella but the Alveopora has 12, the Goniopera has 24. you're right about the Alveo being "somewhat" easier to keep alive, and that it needs to be fed like it's in a turbid lagoon. Absolutley the worst choice for a newbie.

I don't personally heva a flowerpot coral but from a few people I know they suggest using Cyclop-eeze to feed them. It's higher in a specific amino acid that the goni's seem to need. It also reallt seems to work well for feeding sun corals.
