Candy Cane Coral

Hi All! I have a candy cane coral and I noticed it shrinks back quite a bit during the day with not a whole lot of flesh showing. At night when I check with my red light, the polyps are fully extended and little sweeper tenacles are visible. Is this normal?

I think my puffer may bug it during the day a little bit but have not noticed any damage to the coral. I figure that is why it shrinks up during the day. I have had this coral for a year.

Could be that it's defending itself from attack and then attacking back at night. Is there any other corals near it, a aptasia a hydroid possibly, but my hydroids sweep at night. Just found a little aptasia near one of my corals and I was wonder why it was dying, superglued it in its hole HEHE You might try moving it to see if something is bothering it.

Candies as a rule extend the tenticals to feed and in nature this is at night. In my tank every time I start feeding the tank those tenticals come out to catch some of the passing food. I would try moving it to see if someting is bothering it during the day. It should be fully extended even during the day just not neccisarily the tenticals.

Our meat coral does this...extends its tentacles to eat at night, and Troy's cancy cane coral did this, too. Also, we had a modern brain that extended its tentacles at night to feed.
