Can I See Some ID Please ?

OK People... I went tothe store yesterday and purchased what was labeled as a Sebae Anemone..

But I must not have been paying attention in the store because when I got home and plopped this baby in .. it does not look like one..

It lacks the "foot" of an anemone etc etc...

I paid 19.99 for this and would like to know what it is ..

Also bought a Perc.. and she isn't doing so well.. she is sitting at the bottom of the tank.. and has some sparactic swimming every once and a while.. any ideas on both these issues..

Thanks Guys !

If it is a fungiid, then you'll need to take it off the rock and put it in an area where it has a fairly good fine-grained sandbed on which to rest. The tissue of Fungia is easily torn on rock placements and the daily cycle of tissue inflation-deflation that healthy specimens of this genus go through. In addition, during the inflation-deflation, the specimen may push itself off the rock, and if you're really not having a good day, it will end upside-down on the substrate, or lodged in the rockwork. A day in this situation will usually result in the ultimate demise of the specimen.

These organisms are found on sandy sediments of tidal flats between fringing reefs and the shore in areas where there is protection from wave action, but has laminar flow across the specimen during tidal changes. The long-tentacled genus is Heliofungia. If this is what you have, it has a characteristic flat skeleton with radiating septa from the oral opening to the edges. You should be able to see a slit for a mouth that has tissue that appears as fine corduroy. If you look under the specimen, the skeleton is open to the water, and you'll be able to see the scar from the point of attachment that is broken off as juveniles detach from their "stalk" to become free-living adults. This genus is unlike the more robust Fungia spp., as Heliofungia spp. are much more susceptible to tissue damage from mishandling. This often results in septal puncture or perforation of the coenosarc that results in infection, failure to thrive, and the ultimate demise of the specimen. They are also much more susceptable to the nematocysts of other corals (sweepers in particular) which may result in their death as well. On the good side, they show an incredible immunity to bleaching, so the news is not all bad.
