What is it? Some kind of Anemone?
The tentacles on these things are covered and tipped with tiny white spots. The Aptasia photos I've seen show smooth brownish tentacles.
What is this? Should I get my kalk gun loaded? There is a group of three that came attached to a piece of live rock.
Thanks
Rick

I don't know what it is, but my instinct would be to destroy it.

Is it on florida rock? I have a few that look just like that - came in on my rock from gulf-view. They are a type of coral...just can't remember their name right now.

They are one of the few good things that come in on aquacultured rock that will actually live more than a few months.

Another SCORE!!! Toast!
I don't see Cup corals in my reference book. Do they grow very large? They are only about 3/8" in diameter right now and attached to the same rock as a toadstool leather.
Thanks for the good news!~

Hey Doug! They belong to the genus Tubastraea.
Common species: T.aurea, T.coccinea, T.diaphana, T.faulkneri, T. miccrantha(T. micranthus, T. nigrescens), and others.
Common Names:
T. faulkneri: orange cup coral or sun coral
T. micrantha: black sun coral
Mine I believe is Tubastreas aurea(golden cup coral).
