95% of the corals in my tank came from frags (take note of the green and purple cap in the lower left corner)...

Here is my purple rim cap on 12-20-02, less then an inch in size...

And here it is 10 months later on 10-29-03, over 5 inches wide...

If you got the right light and water chemistry SPS's grow like weeds!

Join the club

Not only does he have just a phenomenal setup and corals [check `the gumhead tank' thread ... to see one of the sweetest tank-rooms around] ... but then he has to take all these perfect-looking photos of it.

I guess I'm just suffering from reef-envy. For tanks other than giant TOTM monsters [like Mojoreef, 64Ivy ... which I cannot afford and still stay engaged and with credit-rating] ... Gumhead has one of my major `aspire to this' SPS reefs I know of.

I love it when he posts pics [he's got a nice site too!]

I'd say about half of my colonies began as frags although I seem to be acquiring more and more as time goes on. In fact, many of my wild colonies have grown so large, I've had to frag them several times; always remembering to keep a piece or two for myself. So if you count 2nd or 3rd generation frags, I'd say the ratio goes up to 75/25.

Anyone have a "frag" tank? Is it attached to your main system like a refugium or do you have it seperate? I'm thinking of installing one to help me stop losing frags.
