Another new Acro
Well I picked up another Acro colony today... I'm really beginning to like Christmas... While acclmating it I noticed a small white spot on one of the stalks. Funny thing is, the spot opens and closes and 2 little tiny feather like things come out and move around. Disturb it and they draw back inside and then come back out once they feel it's safe. I'm going to try and get a pic, but not sure if I'll be able to.
The Acro was labeled a "Pink Acro"... I think it's another tricolor, owner called it a "cats Paw" the other day when I was there. Body is sort of reddish brown with blue at the tips and the polyps are bright green...

Sounds like the maxillopeds of a porcelain crab. Harmless. Congrats on the new colony!

Got 2 pics of it, one with it wide open and the other with the "feather" like pieces extended. First pic is of the opening...

Nope, that looks more like a cirriped, a sedentary barnacle. The little feather structures you see are actually appendages modified into cirri for prey capture. I don't see distinct parts of the shell... there should be four hinged parts to the shell: rostrum (first outer), tergum (first inner), scutum (second inner) and carina (second outer), going from anterior to posterior.

Won't be a major problem for the Acro will it? Thanks Chris...

Thanks Johnny... I'm still pretty new to reefing let alone SPS corals and while I feel I have a pretty good grip on most of it, the little things still make me wonder..

I have noticed those things on my acropora from time to time also. They never seemed to bother the coral while being fun to watch.
