pix of coral damage
This is sad stuff, friends. But maybe good can come from it. 1) Maybe, just maybe they aren't as dead as I think they are and 2) some others can learn from our situation here in SC. Still, my two fish are doing well, and the water parameters check out alright (even though the water stinks)
So here goes. I really think this Colt is just offended, and will come back. Wyton (my trumpet coral) seems to be doing ok.

this one makes my heart sick. The Ricordea seems happy enough, but the once pink Sinularia is now black. I don't think there is any salvagable tissue, but I haven't taken it out to inspect closely.

and one last one... note that the Aiptasia on the right fared well in the power outage The puny looking blob to the left of the Aiptasia is a leather that I'm worried about. The leather on the far left of the pic I think it just PO'd.

I think you're right Cath, most of the corals look like they will snap out of it. Don't give up hope on the Sinularia just yet. If it still looks funky tomorrow, give it the sniff test. If it's decaying, you'll know. Even if it's falling apart you may be able to salvage some tissue to start again.
Run carbon and do water changes; you're likely to see a spike due to the death of the small sandbed critters and bacteria.
Got my fingers crossed!
Alice

I had a sinularia leather turn black like that once... it was an online order, and looked that way the next morning. If it's unusually soft to the touch, grab your blade and frag what you can. I saved a surprising amount of it, and you may be able to, too. It might look a little funny, but do what you can.
Is the other a Kenya Tree, Capnella, I think...no coffee yet. We had a little one ride out the crash, but never really recovered. It's still hanging around, but hasn't done anything since. Yours still may snap out of it.
Good luck, and keep us posted,
Danielle

I wish you the best Cath, hope they will all come back . This has convinced me we need to get a generator. We have outages here from time to time, been lucky so far. I wish we lived close enough that we could help out.
I missed your original post. How long was your power out? Was this caused by weather?

Hey cath! We are here for ya and you know that!! Like what has been mentioned, the corals may snap out of it and you will be back to your old self viewing your reef tank.
Those darn aiptasia's just seem to survive everything!

Thanks, Harpo! My power was out from Wed 11 PM to Friday 4:30 PM.
I want to find out more about getting one of those small generators that Steve (Eaglelox) mentioned. That's all I would need for a small tank like mine (29 gal).

Parts of the Sinularia might be spared, but I think the rest will come back.
Could have been MUCH worse, IMO, but sorry for the stress of it all for ya.

Hi Cath,
I'm really sorry about everything you're going through. Your colt looks a LOT better than ours did when it slimed and "melted" during a 5-hr power outage, but our water stayed at 80 degrees. maybe the colder water is better for a colt in water that has no current. Ours needed current to remain standing, it seemed.
The leather on the far left, in the pic with the aptaisia, looks like ours do when they go thru a molt. I wonder if it's just tightly closed up? Is it firm to touch? If so, then mu guess is that it's going to be ok.
What fish do you have besides your clowns? Who is "Spot"?
I wonder if putting some small pwrheads aimed at the leathers would help them slough off and recover?
Take care,
and thanks for the pics and updates,
Shirley

Cath. You can find small gas powered generators at HOME DEPOT or most other hardware stores. Cost varies but to me it would be like life ins. for your reef.
