orange montipora problem

I never thought I'd be asking this. My montipora has always been tough as nails, but something is bugging it now. My parameters are"
pH- 8.3
Ca - 350 ppm
Alk - 6.0 dKH
NH3 - n/d
NO2 - n/d
NO3 - not run
This tank has been up for over a year now, and the monti has always been a trooper. I call him my logbook, though, because under actinics there is a band in his skeleton that fluoresces differently than the rest, apparently something was different about his environment for a while, then it changed back. Now he'll have scars from this too. The white patches appear and disappear over the course of days. During the evening some have a cottonball appearance, which disappates by morning. Any clues?

I don't have a lot of experience with montis but if it makes you feel any better Agaricia is plating and they do that too. Usually it's from organics. Check your tank and see if you have any detritus piles anywhere, if you do, remove it.

Tavernier Key Dive Shop"

I'll have to tell Barbara you've got that in your sig.

Thanks Spank. I'll clean up everything to see if I can stop it. I'd really hate to lose that coral. It's gotten a little worse overnight due to my bumbling. I shot an aiptasia that was just above it and some of the precipitated kalk fell on it. Even though I blew it off quickly, there's a white spot there now too. Ugggh.
I wondered if you knew of that shop or not. They are very nice people. Had a great time there a couple of years ago. Need to go back. The phrase seems to fit me particularly well, and after I heard the CEO of our company say something very similar recently I decided to use it in my sig!

my monti's are very sensitive to things falling on them. if i ever knock off some salt creep and it lands on the monti, there will be a white there the next day. they seem to heal pretty quickly. the same goes with any detritus that settles on them, even just for a little while.

i had a flourescent green monti(10-12 inches around) start turning white ,when i changed lights about three months ago. the entire coral looked dead.it has almost come back completely. i have no explanation other than the light change.
