Leather problem.

A couple weeks ago, I noticed a couple abnormal spots on our yellow leather. It was discolored at the edge, and also in the center. Along with being discolored, the center also formed a hole, in which you can actually see the rock it's attached to.

At this time the discoloration is gone, but the hole remains. Will this repair itself? I know yellow leathers are prone to infections, we have had this one for close to 2 years, was quite small when first aquired, but measures about 10" across now when fully opened. Hate to see it waste away

Harpo..at the very least I would get a powehead pointed right at the black spot. It looks necrotic already, so you may have to do some surgery to prevent it from spreading. Maybe others with yellow leathers could recommend further action.

My frilly toadstool did the same thing. I moved it to a new location with better circulation, blew out the center with a ph and then just waited. It has made a full recovery. I think it is important to make sure debri does not collect inside the folds as this may lead to the rot spots.

Thanks, on the bright side, it has not gotten any larger . I will get a small maxi-jet on it.

I'd agree to put the current on it. My yellow leather did the same thing after being in the tank a year. I pulled out a blade and sliced off the necrotic parts, and the specimen made a full recovery.

I don't know if debris causes this - with this particular species, at least. They just seem very prone to developing problems.

Good luck,
Danielle
