Okay, what in the world is this. Just noticed it when I moved this guy to a new location (this guy being a Sinularia?, bleached out piece of broccoli from Krogers?) I cut several frags off him away from the damaged area, in case it's deadly. Looks like some of its healing up, but the black spots worry me, I have an urge to stick a syringe in there and see it something squeals.

I'd say worm or slug holes. Check at night with a flashlight ( a few hours after lights out).
