Help ID this please

I just got two rocks from a shop in Florida. Both have something I don't know what it is. Please help ID this thing. BTW, there are some white fuzzy, slimmy stuff over the thing. Is this thing dying and I should remove it?

Thanks

It's probably a sponge, but it's hard to tell if it's dying. It could be okay, but the white slime could be a bacterial film consuming dying tissue. If it progresses into black decay that stinks when removed from the water then you should definitly remove it.

Yup, when in doubt, give it the sniff test. Your nose will know Scrub it off with an old clean toothbrush if it smells bad.

Since this thing is limiting a couple of polyp, the white fuzzy stuff does smell a little, I will yank it out tonight. May keep it after it drys out to use in the bath tub.

Thanks for all your comments.

Probably a sponge - if it hit the air, it's probably on it's way to sponge heaven anyway.

By the way, that's some beautiful ricordea!

Thanks, I got those from Eric of EandGsTropicals in Florida. All three rocks I got from him are about 4 x 5 or bigger.
