question on your pumps
Hi andy,
had a few questions on the pumps and wanted to bounce ideas off of you..
this is what i am planning on..
setting up a 120g, have a mag 12., making a sump , and planning on making a Geoff skimmer. planning on a CLS also...
also planning on a prop tank (2) for corals( far future (mid summer))
planning on a good flow and skimmer and sump with them...
so far i have a mag 12 and that is it...
the prop tanks ..one will be softies and the other LPS..
just wanted to give you an idea of what i am planning on...
now the questions....
i know each skimmer will need its own pump..and closed loop too.
i was thinking of the exteranl pumps like the gen x 30 or 40 for each application.. what do you think?

I would also look at the PCX 55...they are very quiet...and are outstanding pumps for not much more than the PCX 40....Were you going to use the 30 for the skimmer? Yes, I would have dedicated pumps for each item...

andy ,
i was just about to place the order but i figure i would ask you first...
i am going to set up a AGA120g with the mega overflows. they will be going in to a sump ( which is a 50 gallon glass tank (cube shaped almost))
i do not know if i can place an external pump for it. would it be better to have an external pump for this size tank or should i go with a submergable pump?. the sump does have a opening that was sealed up so i think i should be able to re-open it and then bulkhead it. what are your thoughts?
thanks tim

The good thing about external pumps is that they should not raise water temp either. I always try to use external if at all possible. With that being siad, sometimes you just can't. You can still use an external pump, even if you don't drill the sump. You have to build a manifold out of PVC to go up and over the sump wall with a T fitting at top....then you have to prime the line to fill it with water....if it doesn't make sense, I can explain better....It is pretty easy to do...and you can get the best pump for the application...external or internal. HTH.
