I am assuming you mean the overflow siphon for the tank... many folks can build larger
overflow boxes on both sides of the glass, and make a siphon that consists of a P-trap and pvc pipe for a sink, you can make this as large as you desire (I have one in an old system that is almost 7 years old now, made of 2" PVC...). The P-trap is wide enough to cross the width of the wall for smaller overflows. If you make your overflow boxes, make them at least 7 inches deep from the bottom of the "teeth" to the bottom of the container to avoid "grabbing air". Put a divider between the end of the siphon tube and the actual drain to the sump that is about half the depth of the container to keep water trapped on the siphon side (to avoid losing your siphon).
Hope this helps, many folk have used pre-formed plastic containers (like phamplet holders from retailers) to form their overflows.
If you feel that your boxes are sufficient, try using a larger diameter siphon tube, make sure that it does not sit on the botto of the overflows, as this will restrict flow tremendously (a pair of wooden wedges can be used to adjust the height of the siphon tube, point them toward each other on each side of the siphon tube and push them together to adjust how high you want the "U" tube to be.)
Hope this helps.
