OOPs This Weekend....

I was very busy this weekend and had a few brain farts with the tank. I though I would share them in the hopes it would keep others from making the same mistakes....

First, saturday night before bed I adjusted my Tunze's so I could get some floe in a few "dead" spots. I woke up sun morning to a bare spot in the center of the tank and had a few corals burried!!! I lost 3 heads of candy cane, The chalice was completly burried, but it was ok. half of the Favia was covered it was ok too. I had a small land slide where the sand was washed out. It could have been much worse.

The secone one wasn't too bad. I installed a gate valve on my skimmer friday. On saturday I did a WC. I unplugged the return pump and siphioned out 10g. I added 10g of fresh SW to the sump and went to put the bucket away. I usually leave the new SW in the sump for a hour or so before turning the return abck on. I do this so the new SW gets to the same tamp as the tank (heater in sump) Well I came back from putting the bucket away and my skimmer looked like a volcano. There was water gushing out of the collection cup. When I raised the level in the sump it changed the back pressure on the gate valve so it overflowed. Good thing it's a in sump skimmer.
