Hey look at my buds

I've had this toadstool for a year or so and it has grown quite a bit. In the last month I have noticed that there are "buds" forming on the underside of it. I know that toadstools usually grow by forming new polyps on the outer edges and keep expanding but this is different from what I have seen. Will these buds fall off and form a new toadstool? Bob

Alex,
I'm not positive on the ID but I think it's a sinularia. Around here they are commonly known as finger leathers. Bob

That's interesting Bob. Not long ago I saw something similar to that growing from the stalk of a toadstool (can't remember where I saw it). It made me wonder what would happen if you nicked the stalk with a razor blade. Wouldn't it react the same as when you cut the whole cap off? Maybe grow a new toadstool there?

Rick,
I thought about snipping one off but it's so small it would be hard to mount the thing. I'm going to watch it and see what happens.

Question

I guess that would apply to other corals? I've seen much the same thing on my xenia and my carnation (that I know I shouldn't have, but got by mistake).
