Do Favia and favites tolerate being close to each other?

Hey Now all,

I have a really great idea. I am thinking about having my 65gallon be a favia dominated tank. Wouldn't it look sweet having a tank full of brains?? I am wondering though if they do ok next to each other, because they do have long sweepers.

Anyone have experience with brains close to one another? favia, favites, platygria, diplos etc...

thanks!

take care,
Jared

They will sting each other if their sweepers reach although ive never noticed any brains sting packing all that strong of a punch towards anything......I think it would be AWESOME to have a tank full of brains. I would just recommend giving them each their own relative sweeping space.
Im not positive about your favia and favites, but ive had my goniastrea throwing some pretty good sweepers on my wellsophyllia as well as some other corals and it didt seem to bother them a whole lot.

Really? I've had some nasty sweeper wars in the past.

Were they doing any damage platy???? I assume you were talking about the brainstar. Ive had him hit stuff but never noticed it hurting much. Although I never allow them closer than BARELY being able to reach.

Like i said already, i think you should give any coral its respective space, but just hadnt nitcied any damage.....

one of them is going to be stronger than the other. one will die. you can keep the same species to gether pretty close, but anything different would be risky.
