Crazy skimmer!

I have a PCI PS100 skimmer which is very similar to the coralife super skimmer 65. Well last night I dropped a suction cup back behind the rockwork and while retrieving it disturbed the SB a bit. I also used icy gel super glue in the tank around the same time.

A 1/2 hour later my gf noticed a weird sound from the tank. It was the gurgle and sucking air sound coming from the skimmer I never heard before. The out flow tube was a bit submerged and when I pulled it out of the water the sound stoped, but water started coming out the air release hole at the tope of the flexi tube and the skimmer cup overflowed.

After an hour off tinkering I gave up and unplugged it to go to bed.

This morning hoping that the problem would have past plugged it back in to see, and it overflowed again.

I got it working by shortening the tube from the pump, thus raising the pump, and plugging the air outlet hole on the top if the flexi tube of the out flow.

Its seems to be working ok now, but I feel this was just temporary solution.

Do you guys have any idea what is going on? As the skimmer was dialed in and working fine for months. The only other change was an increase in sump water level of 1.5" 2 days ago and seemed fine till last night.

try cleaning your tube...might be some salt creep in there. Plus, I bet the increase of water level had something to do with it too.

Seems rather odd that it happened that quickly. I first thought maybe you created a sandstorm when you disturbed the sand and that caused it to go haywire but that's probably not the case.

thats an issue the coralife, current fission, and other like it have which is why we try not to sell them. we try to stick with asm. though usually its a drop in water level which creates more organics in the water that overflows them. i wish i could tell you i have dealt with this at the store. i have 100000000 other complants about those skimemrs but never heard that one

Maybe the increase in water level took 24 hours to manifest its effect and with an increase in DOC's in the water sent it into over drive. Still I am concerned, but it is skimming away as we speak.
