Hi Doug1: I went to reef central and Flame Angel has the same post and it worked but took awhile to load up. Johnny

Sorry about that. I cut and pasted Flame Angel's original post on reefcentral and I went back and looked and hers was the exact same, hers worked mine didn't. Computers are as mysterious to me as women.

captive breeding takes a step forward
You've probably all picked this one off reefcentral but if not check out this link courtesy of Flame Angel .

This would be a huge step. Keep your fingers crossed.

Cold water:
Getting that species to spawn has been done way before, though probably not in the numbers claimed now: the earlier attempts were simply aimed at achieving a fertile spawn, regardless of the number of spawners.
The article goes on to state what has been known in the trnches/front lines of mariculture for decades: It ain't the spawning, it's rearing the larvae that's the challenge.
Call me cynical, but it sounds at least partly more like a press release to help with securing funds for the effort, than a genuine description of a breakthrough.

You may be right, grumpy horge
There's also a company that's been gathering marine fish off the reefs within a day or two of the young post-larval fish settling out back on the reef after hatch out. They seem to be having fair results except they don't know what they're catching. Most of the fish at that stage have yet to take on their sp. characteristics. Kinda reminds me of "Jurassic Park"; collect the dino DNA, put it in an egg and have a surprise party when it hatches

You can sleep better tonight, it's not a breakthrough.
