Suggestions on moving tank.

Hey everyone-

Haven't posted in a while, things have been busy lately. I bought a house closer to the Metro, and will be moving in less than a month... We close on the 10th.... Can't wait, first home. Wish I could upgrade tank at this time, but cash is an issue.

Anyway, I have a 55 with LOTS of smaller, medium colonies, (SPS,LPS, softies) grown from frags entirely! Tank has been setup for about two years, and designed when DSBs were the rage. So now I have this dilemma, I don't want to risk losing ANY of my livestock. I would like to move everything at one time, and place back into the tank all at once. Should I pitch the sand and go with new stuff? Would I be better to house the coral/fish in separate crates, and await a cycle?

I plan on minimizing transit time (about an hour), individual bagging, maintaining temp, and having established crates with temp on arrival.

Any help would be appreciated.... I am NOT looking forward to May 12th.
Also, am thinking of buying this... can't take water from the University any more.

Anyone purchase from here? How long to ship? I am also unsure of whether or not I'll need a float valve. I don't yet have a system which I'll plumb in for top-off. I would like to just be able to get water when I need it for daily topoff, and water changes. Any opinions on the unit?

I just moved a 150 and it is a challenge. The best thing you can do is do it when you are due for a water change. Get your water change water ready on site, and the take as much water out of your tank as you can before you disturb anything. once your corals are exposed you can start removing them, and put them into the water you have been taking out. If you want, put saranwrap or baggies inbetween them for no touch protection. Yes!!! Replace the sand.you will have some dirty water left over, because you can not possibly get it all out. Throw this away and that is where the new water for the water change comes into play. GOOD LUCK! I have lots of buckets in mankato if you need them. The live rock can sit out for a period of time, but cover it so it does not dry out.

We close on the 6th and begin to move, luckily I have 3 miles to go. I'm still debating on what to do with my sand. Thinking the fake sand bed thing, but I like the sand, just don't want to kill things froms tirrin gup the sand and releasing toxins.....
