Thats what I have been reading. What kind of plants would you recomend? Also, how much does light matter? low, medium light, or just large shaded spots.

I am not "local" but I saw your post and thought I'd lend my 2 cents.

Last year for the trt build off I started planning and building a 29 gallon sea horse tank. I currently have 3 h. reidi in it and I love them. Such beautiful creatures. Here is my build thread :
http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=90397

it's long, there is good, bad, and totally irrelevant in it

I hope it helps you and feel free to ask me any questions. If I don't know the answer I will help direct you to people that can.

i think the best thing I did was plan plan plan and read even more than plan.

to answer your question what kind of plants and lighting....

plants - neat, but I have found them to be unnecessary - my horses will hitch to ANYTHING including each other.

Many sea horse keepers keep various forms of marco algae - grape calpura and feather calpura are 2 favorites it seems. I had some but I found that I would "lose" the horses in it visually and that freaked me out

Lighting... well that would depend on if you are going to keep corals in the tank.

IF just the seahorses then you only need regular NO lights ( normal output).

if you are going to keep softies - compact floursents or t5
lps- t5 or mh

sps are not a good choice for the ponie tank due to direct opposite care requirements.

I favor t5's in this kinda set up with corals - heat is one of the main issues with a horse tank. You want to keep it at 72-74 for tropical horses.

I hope this helps you get started!

I have been thinking about doing horses also. I have my nano but I have two false percs in it, and I am guessing that two false percs and two maroons in a 75 gallon would not be a good thing so.. I may have to get another nano
