I had my first goldfish given to me at age three by my Aunt Gloria, a schoolteacher. That was my start. My first tank was a ten gallon with corner bubble filter using carbon and filter floss at age 5. From there I began to keep various fresh water fish, I began to breed Chiclids in High School with my older brother George. By age 18 we had a 55 gal, 29 Gal, two 20 Gal, 15 gal and 2 10 gal tanks throughout our parents row house in Jersey City,NJ.

In college I kept a 20 gal with 2 Oscars, that my roommates loved watching me feed guppies or small goldfish. I had little time for them since I was a Chemical Engr Major. I got into Med School right after undergrad a took a 4 year break from fish, I gave "Sam and Dave" my Oscars to a college roommate. Med School and marriage to Maria kept me from the hobby until the end of my Intern year. We had a son, Doug, I started a goldfish tank for him with my old 55 gal set-up.

We used that 55 gal until we bought our house in December of 1993. That Christmas Maria and our two boys, Doug and Dave, gave me the 75 gal Oceanic Set-up that I used for African Chiclids until March of 2004 when I decided to try saltwater.
